My Family Portrait Approach
Life is flying by, and your phone overflows with snapshots of the kids. But the saturation of images doesn’t match the transient exquisiteness of the experience of parenthood. My portrait sessions are an opportunity to take a deep breath, to step back and see with fresh eyes this messy, vibrant life, yes, right now, amidst the never-ending changes.
My approach to family portrait photography blends my unique experience as a fine art photographer, documentary filmmaker, and reggio emilia (play-based pedagogy) preschool teacher. I also happen to be the father and primary caretaker of an 11-month-old, Noel. So I know what it’s like to see the changes fly by and struggle to document the experience while making sure the diaper is clean and your child isn’t eating a battery.
I am not so concerned about the distinction between staged and un-staged portraits. Rather, I seek to distill light, beauty, and tenderness, making space for children to present their full, dynamic selves for the camera. Together, we will make images and videos that preserve a portal for you into this fleeting, precious moment of family life.
The Go-Time
I get it. You’re busy. That's why I offer this package. We’ll chat about your kids, what they like, and where you’d like to shoot: at your home, a nearby park, or some other meaningful location. And then I’ll show up and within an hour and a half make 3 photographs that you can’t wait to post on IG for all the likes.

Yes, life is busy. But your kid is so darn cute right now that you really need a way to preserve this moment. For up to three hours, we will photograph together. Wherever you like. 8 photographs. They’ll be so good they’ll break Instagram.

The Cine Star
Photographs are great at telling stories. Videos are even better. I put my film chops to work to document play time, mealtime, whatever you’d like to remember and cherish. Then I’ll do an interview and record narration for the film. Prepare the tissues. It’s gonna be poignant. Color correction, sound design, and a score included in your 2-minute film.

My training
My first college film photography course in 2010 was a revelation. I spent hours in the dark room working on personal projects, using the camera as a tool to immerse myself more fully in the world. For a month, I worked on a ranch in the middle of the desert in Arizona making images of a loving family of conspiracy theorists. I spent years building friendships with and photographing the unhoused community of Atlanta.
After receiving a Master’s of Fine Arts in Photography and Video from the University of Arizona, one of the top five programs in the US, I created my first feature-length, award-winning documentary. Now I offer - in Berlin, Philadelphia, and New York - family photo and video portraits.
